Sustainable Development in the University’s Strategic Projects

Strategic projects are large-scale, interdisciplinary educational, scientific, innovative, and communicational initiatives aimed at advancing expertise and achieving unique academic and applied results in rapidly growing fields of studies.

HSE University performs these projects within the Priority-2030 Academic Leadership Programme framework to enhance national and global economic, social and technological development. All strategic projects contribute to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Monitoring Sustainability & Making Recommendations

Being an expertise centre, HSE University accumulates data and tracks changes in numerous economic, social, and technological fields affecting sustainable development nationally and globally.

  • The Human Capital Multidisciplinary Research Centre has accumulated more than 80 research projects focused on the analysis and forecasting of human capital, employment, the activities and roles of different social groups, and the effects of climate change on human capital development.

  • Monitoring of education markets and organisations

Key Centres of Competence

  • The Institute of Ecology focuses its interdisciplinary research and analytical efforts on protecting the environment and ensuring human well-being in the era of climate change.

  • The Climate Change Economy Lab conducts interdisciplinary research on the effects of climate change on economic growth, socio-economic challenges arising due to climate change at national and global levels, and regulatory initiatives aimed at mitigating effects of climate change.

2. The Institute for Agrarian Studies research and other projects in agricultural technology and food security

3. The Institute of Education conducts interdisciplinary research into the development of early childhood education, primary and secondary education, and higher education in Russia and the post-Soviet countries. It also monitors the economics and the infrastructure of educational systems. 

5. The Corporate Finance Centre research on the effects of corporate governance on corporate financial performance in the context of ESG transformation

6. The Laboratory for Anti-Corruption Policy research on anti-corruption policies and tools

International Academic Cooperation

Starting from 2024, the Joint Basic Research Project ‘International Academic Cooperation of HSE University’ is being implemented by conducting an open competition of research initiatives implemented by HSE University scientists in cooperation with colleagues from foreign universities.

  • In 2024, 7 research projects were supported and launched by HSE University scientist in cooperation with researchers from Belarus, Brazil, China, Vietnam and Uzbekistan.

International Satellite Laboratory

A pioneering Satellite Laboratory for Social Entrepreneurship has been launched by HSE University in cooperation with the UTM Malaysia. This laboratory performs research and expert activities dedicated to comprehensive analysis of social entrepreneurship across diverse and dynamic regions in cooperation with society, NPOs, corporate and public sectors. The researchers of the lab regularly publish the International digest on Social entrepreneurship and conduct academic conferences and expert sessions on social entrepreneurship.

Since 2024, the University Panamericana (Guadalajara, Mexico) has started collaborating with the laboratory.
