Experts from the HSE Continuing Education Centre, the Master's Programme 'Artificial Intelligence', and Yandex Education have developed and published a free math handbook in data analysis (in Russian). This is the seventh online publication in a series of digital self-study textbooks dedicated to specific IT areas.

An international online hackathon dedicated to solving environmental problems was held at HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod. Students employed artificial intelligence and computer vision to develop innovative solutions for image segmentation, predictive modelling (forecasting future events based on data from the past) of emissions and creating chatbots for nature reserves and national parks.
In the framework of the academic mission to Latin America, HSE University-St Petersburg has negotiated to launch joint projects with leading Brazilian universities. Thus, with the University of São Paulo, the first in the QS ranking among Brazilian universities, HSE plans to carry out joint research aimed at supporting biodiversity, developing biotechnologies and solving ecological and social issues. The project also involves students and staff mobility for mutual exchange of knowledge and experience.
In mid-July 2024, 18 students from various HSE campuses (Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, and Moscow) participated in an expedition to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to develop elements of a promotional strategy for the Priklonsky-Rukavishnikov estate. This project was conceived as part of the School of Snow 3.0 inter-campus expedition and was the winner of the ‘Rediscovering Russia’ competition. We’d like to share the results of the expedition as well as the impressions of the participants.
The HSE International Admissions Office hosted another campus tour for schoolchildren at HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar. This time, more than 50 students aged 10–15 from Armenia came to HSE University in Moscow as part of a three-week trip organised with the support of the Russian Ministry of Education and Rossotrudnichestvo.
The competitive selection of the inter-university student expedition programme Rediscovering Russia has ended. The expeditions will take place from May to November 2024 and will cover 26 Russian regions. Students and graduates from any university countrywide, including foreigners, can apply for any expedition.
From January 15 to February 15, the project website is accepting applications to organise and conduct expeditions for the 2024 season as part of the Rediscovering Russia project. In 2023, 1,000 students from 157 universities took part in the expeditions.
HSE Online is launching a new course: Mechanisms of Climate Change. Students will learn not only how to critically assess information in media and differentiate scientific data from conspiracy theories, but also to independently conduct research into the climate system.
The implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals can provide a breakthrough in creating a better future for younger generations, and universities are at the forefront of this process. Representatives of world universities discussed how to train future decision-making leaders in the concepts of sustainable development and make education more practice-oriented at the session ‘At the Frontier of Progress: Universities as a Key Element in Achieving SDGs’ in the framework of International Partners’ Week at HSE University.
The forum was held as part of HSE University’s International Partners' Week, which coincides with Russia’s chairship of the EAEU and is aimed at connecting the strategies and initiatives of its participants in the fields of education, science, and technology. The forum was attended by representatives from 23 countries and more than 40 scientific and educational organisations.
