On February 5, 2025, the National Centre ‘Russia’ in Moscow hosted an awards ceremony for the winners of the fourth season of the All-Russian competition Znanie.Lecturer organised by the Russian Society Znanie (translated as Knowledge in English). The winners included 70 lecturers from 37 Russian regions. Representatives of HSE University were among the best of the best.
The HSE building on Kantemirovskaya Street hosted the first meeting of the project 'Mexican Traditions—Why Are Mexicans Always Happy?' Students and professors learnt about national festivals, customs, and traditions in Latin America, as well as opportunities for academic mobility.
An international online hackathon dedicated to solving environmental problems was held at HSE University in Nizhny Novgorod. Students employed artificial intelligence and computer vision to develop innovative solutions for image segmentation, predictive modelling (forecasting future events based on data from the past) of emissions and creating chatbots for nature reserves and national parks.
On November 20, 2024, HSE University hosted the annual autumn Career Marathon, traditionally organised by its Career Development Centre. Guests could enjoy various booths with activities from partner companies, video interviews with industry experts, a cinema zone with popcorn, as well as games, quests, puzzles, quizzes, and gifts.
On November 8, HSE University hosted the Republic of Scientists Festival for the seventh time. The event aims to remind students that science is multifaceted and universal, to showcase areas of knowledge beyond their educational curriculum, and to connect early-career scientists with one another. Guests of the festival enjoyed interactive activities, popular science lectures by university faculty and alumni, and the grand finale of Season VII of Science Battles.
On October 12, 2024, the HSE Сampus on Pokrovka hosted the annual career fair STROY.FEST, organised by DOM.RF in cooperation with HSE's Career Development Centre. The event focused on careers in the construction industry in eco-friendly cities. Students had the chance to meet representatives from various companies, participate in workshops, learn about internship opportunities, and receive gifts and career advice from potential employers.
This summer, Rodion Mutsolgov from the Moscow Region enrolled in HSE University after developing a project to train birds of the corvid family to collect trash. His project was recognized as one of the best at the third annual research project competition for applicants to the HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS), and also became one of the winners of the Ecology is Everyone's Business International Award. The HSE News Service interviewed the first-year student about his research discoveries and university experience.
From May to August 2024, 19 student expeditions took place across 15 regions of the country as part of the third season of the ‘Rediscovering Russia’ project. Currently, 10 more project expeditions are underway. The second stage of the application selection for autumn expeditions began in early August, with submissions open until August 16.
In mid-July 2024, 18 students from various HSE campuses (Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, Saint Petersburg, and Moscow) participated in an expedition to Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to develop elements of a promotional strategy for the Priklonsky-Rukavishnikov estate. This project was conceived as part of the School of Snow 3.0 inter-campus expedition and was the winner of the ‘Rediscovering Russia’ competition. We’d like to share the results of the expedition as well as the impressions of the participants.
From April 26 to May 7, a team of professors and students from HSE University-St Petersburg conducted a field study in the Indian Himalayas. We asked Aleksei Sorbale, an academic supervisor of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics', and Pavel Bazarov, a graduate of the Bachelor's programme and a student of the Master's programme 'Global and Regional History', to tell us about their research and share their impressions of the expedition.
